Frank Sinatra and Pennies From Heaven, 1962
Just go ahead and click "play" and listen as you read.
As I was getting ready for a meeting today, I played my Frank Sinatra radio on Pandora. This was the first song that came on. And I must say, as I listened to it, I felt very inspired.
"Pennies from Heaven" was first recorded in 1936, sung by Johnny Burke and music by Arthur Johnston. It played during the opening credits of a movie that came out in 1936 called Pennies from Heaven, starring Bing Crosby. It was recorded by many popular jazz singers. Among those are Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Dinah Washington, and Dean Martin. The 1936 recording sung by Bing Crosby was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004.
Frank Sinatra recorded this song twice: once in 1956, the other in 1962.

I love this. It reminds me of the scripture in Ether 12:6.
Basically, you're going to go through trials and hard times. But you will gain blessings from these trials. And I think that it is fair to say that you will get a LOT of blessings from your trials, or when it is figuratively raining in your life. So when you have hard times, look at the blessings you are receiving instead of the trial.
When I think of pennies, I think of that really beautiful copper color and their shine. I also think of Abraham Lincoln, which I guess is irrelevant.
I have also been super into ripped denim lately. I don't know what it is! I think it just makes it look different. And the fact that I can find ripped denim that isn't too ripped. It's good here and there, but denim that is too shredded can take away from the rest of the outfit. Not to mention your legs would get cold!
As far as my life goes, I've just been really busy trying to keep up with my online classes and internship. I barely have time to do anything else. It's almost a miracle that I even have time to eat and exercise, let alone post on my blog. God must be blessing me!
I know Mondays are tough, but at least you got through this one, right? Here's to a great week!

Marilyn Monroe Weekend Looks
Hey, guys! I hope that none of you are up this early on a saturday morning. I had to wake up for a conference call for my internship.
As you know, I am a HUGE fan of old movie stars. I also tend to collect items with Marilyn Monroe on them. Which is weird, since I don't really like wearing t-shirts. But somehow if they have graphics that I like, I think that I will wear it? I'm not sure.
So if you're like me, you tend to collect a lot of these pieces.

Elizabeth Taylor, circa 1956
Remember how I said that I love Elizabeth Taylor?
I wasn't lying.
I do not know exactly when or where this picture was taken, or for what occasion. But I'm pretty sure that she is wearing Michael Todd's engagement ring.
Out of all the celebrities that there ever is or ever was, she is the one that people say I look like. Now, I do not usually like to be told that I look like a celebrity because I don't like the pressure that women feel to look like someone that they are not.
However, I make an exception with Elizabeth Taylor, Vivien Leigh, Gene Tierney, etc...

These women are powerful and feminine and strikingly beautiful. I am honored to have been compared to them!
As for my life, I've just been keeping busy working and doing my internship and classes. I made my first tweet for Chic Vain! You can see it here. Yes, I made the outfit on polyvore myself. It was so fun!

Shirley Eaton in Goldfinger, 1964
Hey, remember that one time when I made a fashion blog and then didn't post anything for 5 weeks?
Yeah, sorry about that.
But to be fair, I DO have a lot going on. I am taking two online classes, working two different part time jobs, and doing an internship.
By the way, the internship is going GREAT! I actually lied to you before, the title of the internship is Fashion-Editor-In-Training. So I'm not doing a ton of writing, but I am coming up with ideas to write in the magazine and delegating the different articles to the fashion journalists on my team.
I'm not even kidding about it. (Miranda Sings, anybody? Yes? No? Okay.)
So far I've just been using most of my creative energy for this internship, so there hasn't been much time/energy left for my personal blog. But as I put on my clothes and found a little free time today, I remembered how much I love this. I hope to post more soon :). Arizona is beautiful this time of year and so it will be fun to experiment with different outfits and rekindle my love for old movies.
SO. Without further ado:
Shirley Eaton in Goldfinger. I was watching all of the Sean Connery James Bond movies earlier last month, and I really like the sixties fashion. I really like gold, so I thought I would incorporate some of that into my look today.
She really doesn't have a huge part in this movie. Honestly, she was a Bond girl for about five minutes before she was smothered in gold paint and suffocated and died.

What a classy lady. I respect people who age well.
