Gene Tierney in Shanghai Express, 1941

We celebrated Gene Tierney's birthday in this lovely month of November. A lot of my favorite actresses had birthdays this month, I wonder if that means something?

Anyway, I did some research on Gene Tierney before I did a photo shoot and found out that I love her. She has some interesting quotes that I really relate to. I hope you do too.

Of course, all of these things are not appropriate for daily wear. So I chose ONE thing about her look to recreate for the daytime. I chose the statement necklace and a black top.

I like to wear darker colors on top and lighter on the bottom. I'm proportioned a little bigger on top, so when I wear the correct colors the correct way, it makes me look more proportional.

Hedy Lamarr, 1940's

I absolutely adore Hedy Lamarr.

She was deemed the "most beautiful woman in Europe" during Hollywood's Golden Age, but that is not why I love her. She helped develop frequency hopping, an early technique for spread spectrum communication. In 1941, it was deemed so vital to national defense that the government didn't allow its publication.

She was born on November 9th- so this post is a bit late. Forgive me! But this is intended to celebrate her birthday.

This is a glamor shot Hedy Lamarr, which I'm guessing is in the early 1940's. Correct me if I'm wrong!

 Now, I created this blog with the intent of taking glamour shots of my favorite movie stars and making them casual. That is what I did here.

I used a similar salmon colored top with layering necklaces. Although I adore pearls, I would not wear a 6- strand pearl necklace out on the town! So I have a simple layered gold necklace for my casual outfits. But you can't take me away from my pearl studs!

Her eyelashes are divine, and absolutely fake. I'm almost 100% sure they are fake. (Look at that shadow on her cheek! There's no way...) I tried to make my eyes stand out by using thickening mascara.

There you have it! 

It is the end of November, and I am SO EXCITED to see my family for this coming Thanksgiving. Aren't you?!

I am planning to have a few more posts for the end of November, hopefully some will be in California :).

Grace Kelly in Rear Window, 1954

Hello, friends!

There were so many classic movie star birthdays this week. One of my favorites of all is the legend, Grace Kelly. 

Grace Kelly is the first Old Hollywood actress I was ever really interested in. In high school, I went to visit my aunt Kim and I remember her talking about Grace Kelly, and somehow I looked her up. I thought she was the epitome of all sophistication. Her style really intrigued me. I especially loved how she is so modest yet so alluring. I wanted to be both modest and beautiful too! Until then, I didn't know that such a thing was possible!

When I think of Grace Kelly, I automatically think of this photo set she did for the movie Rear Window, which came out in 1954.

The dress she wore was so beautiful and elegant.

I don't have any movie premieres to go to or anything like that, but I do have work that I can dress up for!

My outfit is different than Grace Kelly's in a few different ways, (besides the colors being switched.) My top is flowy and sheer and definitely less formal. The skirt is not nearly as long as hers, either! A short girl like me tries to stay away from ankle-length skirts. I prefer skirts to the knee.

The pearls are a gift from my father and step mother. Aren't they lovely? I love pearls.
